Ange Postecoglou will be missing one of Tottenham’s main players for an extended period of time, thus the team is looking for reinforcements in January.

Due to a significant injury to one of his star players, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou may have to go outside the club in January for a new defender. After Cristian Romero and Destiny Udogie were both sent off, Spurs lost 4-1 at home to Chelsea, handily suffering their first defeat of the new manager’s tenure. Postecoglou faces more challenges than just losing the two players to suspension following Micky van de Ven’s injury to the center of defense.

After chasing a ball towards his goal, the Dutchman went down on the ground with a painful hamstring injury and required assistance from Tottenham’s medical staff to leave the field. Given that the 22-year-old will now likely need to miss a significant amount of time due to his hamstring injury, it seems that it may be more serious than a strain or pulled muscle.

The extent of his injuries will likely be ascertained by a scan, although the £43 million summer acquisition was spotted at the team’s practice field before their matchup with Wolves this past weekend. If the news is indeed bad, Postecoglou has already positioned his primary target to offer some backup at the back.

According to The Standard, the club may rekindle their interest in the Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly in advance of a January raid after having targeted him this summer.

This summer, the Englishman gained attention as a possible alternative before Spurs turned their attention to other players, namely Van van Ven. However, his injury has highlighted the weakness in the defense’s core, so the north London club’s interest is not shocking, especially considering Eric Dier’s uncertain future at the team.

After joining from Blackburn, there are questions over whether Ashley Phillips, 18, is prepared for first-team football. The young player still needs to improve and is thought to be a long-term possibility.

Kelly, who is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and is unlikely to sign a contract extension at Vitality Stadium, could be available for a bargain price. In the event that Udogie or Ben Davies are absent, they have a backup option in the left-footed defender, who has previously played at left defense.
