Bryan King has criticised AC Milan after they tabled their opening offer for Tottenham defender Emerson Royal.

The ex-Spurs scout claims the Italian club don’t like to spend big when it comes to transfers.

As reported by BBC Sport (16 July), Milan saw an opening offer of £8.4million for Emerson knocked back by Spurs.

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes the North London club will be looking for a higher figure to sell Emerson.

“I would think Tottenham are looking for a figure of between £12-15million, at least,” King said.

“Italian teams, particularly AC Milan, sell expensive but don’t like to spend big money, do they?

“Emerson is a versatile player and I expect Tottenham will therefore be looking for a minimum fee of £12million. That bid from AC Milan is ridiculous, clubs are paying more than that for 17-year-olds.”

AC Milan and Tottenham negotiating the transfer of Emerson Royal

Milan and Spurs have been discussing a deal for Emerson for quite some time. Therefore, after those discussions, it seems strange that the Serie A side would table such a low bid.

They would have surely been aware that the offer would be knocked back by Tottenham, and it seems as if putting together the offer was a waste of time for everybody involved.

Milan are yet to return with an improved offer for Emerson, with interest emerging from the likes of Borussia Dortmund and clubs in Saudi Arabia.

However, Emerson is keen to join Milan (via Fabrizio Romano, 2 July), and he will therefore hope their opening offer was just a negotiation tactic, and that a deal is eventually agreed.
