Tottenham Hotspur’s Head Coach, Robert Vilahamn, Foresees Grace Clinton as England’s Future Number Ten

Grace Clinton, who is currently on loan at Tottenham Hotspur from Manchester United at the age of 20, has earned high praise from her coach. Speaking in a press conference before an upcoming WSL game against Brighton, Swedish manager Vilahamn expressed his belief in Clinton’s potential and her best position on the field.

He stated, ‘She’s a ten, absolutely. In the future, she’s bound to secure a starting role as a number ten in the national team; I’m quite confident about that.’

Clinton, who currently represents England Under-23, has been a consistent presence in various youth national teams. After joining Manchester United from Everton last summer, she had a successful half-season loan with Bristol City, contributing significantly to their Championship-winning campaign with six goals.

Clinton’s First Full WSL Season with Spurs: Versatile Role and Lively Personality

Joining Spurs provides the talented attacker her first opportunity for a full season as a consistent WSL starter. Clinton kicked off the season by featuring in the opening match against Chelsea, where she played the majority of the game in a narrow 2-1 loss, and in the following match, she started in a 3-1 win against Bristol City.

Coach Vilahamn elaborated on the role he envisions for her during the 2023-24 season, explaining, ‘Sometimes, when you’re young and eager to have possession of the ball while avoiding risky moments, moving out to the left, as she’s currently doing, allows her to enter space with the ball instead of starting in the space. She’s also finding her way into that pocket to take a shot. So, while she’s destined to be a ten, for now, she’s doing a great job as a left-winger and will likely feature in both positions.’

Known for her lively character, as revealed in a previous interview, Clinton’s humorous and fun-loving personality has made an impact. Vilahamn, managing in England for the first time after arriving from BK Häcken in the Damallsvenskan this summer, acknowledged her lively nature, stating, ‘She’s not the quiet type! She’s very down-to-earth but incredibly fun, and she gets along well with her teammates. The only challenge I have is understanding her Liverpool accent, but she’s a genuinely enjoyable person.'”
