The lifestyle at the highest table in football is merciless
Yes, Newcastle United has very high standards these days because of their aspirations. They most definitely must be if they are to overthrow the prevailing oligarchy. Fortunately, the majority of the team’s current members will be accustomed to that. Lewis Hall will be now, if he wasn’t already.
Recently, Alan Shearer examined the 19-year-old’s play at Chelsea during the previous campaign in an essay titled “How Not To Score: Alan Shearer’s guide to missing chances” on The Athletic.
He was, to put it mildly, quite ruthless.
The legendary player from Newcastle was analyzing a chance the Blues had against Manchester United in their season-ending 4-1 loss in May. When there was just the goalkeeper to beat at Old Trafford, Hall raced up the left wing and cut across for Mykhailo Mudryk, who completely missed the ball.
Shearer wrote: “All of this is terrible, starting with the ball in from Lewis Hall. If the pass is hit a couple of yards ahead of Mudryk, he runs onto it without breaking stride, but he has to check, then go again. After that, the mess is all down to him.”
