Latest Arsenal news with Gary Neville makes a contentious comment regarding Gabriel’s opening goal against Crystal Palace, targeting Arsenal supporters.

In recent weeks, the Gunners have lost to Liverpool, West Ham, and Fulham, virtually doubling their season defeat total. Arsenal suffered defeats against RC Lens, West Ham Newcastle, and Aston Villa in the first half of the 2022/23 season, with the latter two coming in league play.

Both were 1-0 losses away from home with controversy engulfing each game but the circumstances surrounding the winning goal for Newcastle at St James Park particularly drew anger. An offside, foul and whether or not the ball remained in play were all checked by VAR after Anthony Gordon ended that crazy sequence by tapping home.

The main complaints arrived regarding Joelinton impeding Gabriel to win Joe Willock’s cross which directly led to Gordon’s goal. “We have to talk about the result because you have to talk about how the hell this goal stands up and it’s incredible,” Arteta said on the goal after the game. “I feel embarrassed but I have to be the one now coming here to try to defend the club and please ask for help, because it’s an absolute disgrace that this goal is allowed; it’s an absolute disgrace.”

The FA charged Arteta with misconduct for his statements, but an Independent Regulatory Commission judged him not guilty of any rule violations. Neville has clearly referenced the explosion following that goal, comparing it to Gabriel’s first goal.

The videos show Gabriel using both hands to launch off Chris Richards’ back to win the header, with Neville uploading a screenshot of the event on X (previously Twitter) with the caption: “Arsenal fans think this is a foul then, [two laughing face emojis].”

Gabriel scored Arsenal’s second goal, and despite Neville’s comments, the Palace players complained more about it than the first. This time, Bukayo Saka sent in the corner, with Ben White blocking Dean Henderson, allowing Gabriel to steer a header home off the back of the Crystal Palace goalkeeper’s head, with a quick VAR check confirming no evident infringements.
