West Ham United to receive Kalvin Phillips transfer verdict within days following Fabrizio Romano’s latest ‘key moments’ update

West Ham United’s January transfer window hasn’t exactly been spectacular thus far, and David Moyes acknowledged that the Irons must let go of players before bringing in new players.

The only significant departure from the London Stadium during the 20-day window has been Thilo Kehrer’s initial loan out, with the German player temporarily joining Ligue 1 versus Monaco with a permanent option included in the contract.

However, it finally seems as though there could be some movement on the incoming front, with suggestions emerging that the Irons are keen on securing the services of Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City for the remainder of the season.

The Irons are now in the “box seat” to sign the England international this month after Newcastle United rejected the Premier League winners’ financial offer, according to a Friday, January 19, Daily Mirror journalist Ryan Taylor’s report.

Although West Ham’s desire to match City’s financial requirements hasn’t been officially stated, it looks possible that a deal will be decided in the next few days.

While they wait for Phillips’ decision in the next days, Fabrizio Romano revealed in his Daily Briefing column on Saturday, January 20, that Manchester City and teams are now in negotiations, and that these are the “key moments” in closing any possible transfer deal.

The transfer specialist remains confident that the England international will depart the Etihad before the end of the January transfer window and that could mean that they will know whether they have won the race for Phillips’ signature sooner rather than later.

If West Ham sign the 28-year-old, they will have added some much-needed depth to their midfield ranks, but if they miss out, they will have a little over a week of the transfer window to move on and focus on other targets.

Either way, it seems that Moyes and the Hammers won’t have to wait too much longer to know whether or not they’ll complete their first signing of the January transfer window.
