Birmingham’s Aston Villa newsWatch live as Crvena Zvezda replaces Kosta Nedeljkovic

Crvena Zvezda has found a replacement for Kosta Nedeljkovic, and Aston Villa is almost ready to make their first acquisition of the January transfer window.

The highly-regarded right-back is expected to join Villa after the Premier League team and Crvena Zvezda reached an agreement worth £6.5 million plus add-ons. It is anticipated that Nedeljkovic will play for the Serbian champions for the remainder of the season before joining Villa in the summer.

Despite this, Ognjen Mimovic of OFK Beograd appears to have already joined Crvena Zvezda, taking the position of the 18-year-old.

Nedeljkovic only made his first-team debut for Crvena Zvezda back in August, but he has already made 12 league appearances this season. Additionally, he has made four appearances for Crvena Zvezda in their group stage matches against RB Leipzig, Manchester City, and Young Boys in the Champions League this season.

Even if Calum Chambers is one of the few players who can play right back, he will still be free to quit the team. Ezri Konsa has played right-back a lot this season, but Matty Cash is the only recognized player on the squad right now.

Kaine Kesler-Hayden, meanwhile, was just called back from his season-long loan at Plymouth Argyle. He played in 24 Championship games for Argyle this season, and it looks like he’s going to leave the team this window—either permanently or on another loan.
