JJ Watt, a former NFL player and co-owner of Burnley, was incensed with a VAR ruling that gave Luton Town an equalizer against the Clarets on Friday.

Carlton Morris, a forward for the Hatters, jumped into the air on a dangerous cross in the 91st minute of their encounter against Luton Town on Thursday and slammed the ball into the net with a dazzling header. The problem, though, was that James Trafford, the Clarets’ goalkeeper, looked to have been flagrantly hip-checked to the ground while attempting to grab the ball in the air.

Much to the dismay of manager Vincent Kompany, the referees declared the goal legal following a protracted VAR review. The decision left the NBC Sports Soccer announcers perplexed on live, but Burnley co-owner JJ Watt took things a step further and launched a tirade on social media site X. The former NFL player went so far as to suggest that the Premier League fine him money for his postings, labeling the VAR ruling as “disgraceful.”

QUOTES WHAT WATT SAID
Watt wrote on X, saying, “I’m not experienced with ownership, so it’s okay if I get fined by the Premier League. This is the most clear and egregious offense you could have committed. It is really shameful to miss this on the pitch AND on VAR.”

‘In what world is this not a foul?’ he said in a follow-up post.

Given that both teams are in the relegation zone, the match was vital for them both. Burnley would have been one point below Luton in the 18th position with three points, but they are now four behind their opponents following Friday’s game. Come season’s end, the contentious conclusion might have a significant impact, particularly if the Clarets are relegated by fewer than two points.

In two weeks, the Clarets will play their home game against Manchester City, the current champions. It will be Vincent Kompany’s opportunity to prove to the team where he first became a legend that he is a premier manager.
