Even if Manchester United is interested in French center back Jean-Clair Todibo, it seems like Tottenham Hotspur, who plays in the Premier League and is among the top four teams, has the upper hand.
“Tottenham Hotspur are determining their formal move for defender Jean-Clair Todibo from Nice,” sources told TEAMtalk.
Although the parties have not yet established formal communication, that is anticipated to change quickly once the transfer window opens in January.
“The Spurs are going to try to find out just how hard the negotiations surrounding a move for him will be.”
The North London team’s hurry in trying to sign Todibo could work in their favor or against them because they want to add a defensive player before the middle of January.
In the past, Fabrizio Romano has also expressed his opinion and stated that Spurs will attempt to sign the player this winter.
A move for the Nice defender in this forthcoming window is complicated because, despite the announcement of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s INEOS being acquired, United is unlikely to do much more than bring in loans or inexpensive deals.
Ratcliffe is one of the issues listed in the piece that could make a possible acquisition for Spurs more difficult, though, as he also owns Nice.
The gifted young defender has reportedly drawn the attention of manager Erik ten Hag, who may be eager to make sure the Dutchman gets his man in the summer and try to persuade the player to wait.
Since it appeared that Harry Maguire was headed to West Ham in the summer, the Red Devils have been connected to the Frenchman.
Reputable reporter David Ornstein has also hinted that United may be seeking to sign a defender in January, while fellow transfer expert Romano has said that supporters shouldn’t take the club’s official denials about spending during the winter transfer window too seriously.
This could also be significantly impacted by rumors that Raphael Varane may leave in January, with Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, and the Saudi Pro League being mentioned as potential destinations. Should the Frenchman be sold, it will become imperative to replace him, and the money acquired in exchange for him might enable the Red Devils to pursue Todibo independently.
