Newcastle’s performance has declined over the last month, landing them in ninth position and outside of Europe; yet, the club’s management are now surprised by their decline this season.

Although Newcastle has dropped six of its previous seven games in all competitions, senior club officials are not at all surprised by this.

They anticipated a considerable decline in their Premier League standing in what would likely be their second full season of PIF-funded work. Howe has had support in the transfer market for the last two summers, and he finished in the top four last season ahead of plan.

With Champions League football added to their calendar, Newcastle’s ascent up the league has happened faster than many had anticipated. Those at St James’ Park anticipated a more difficult season this year. According to the Telegraph, Eddie Howe is widely regarded as their long-term boss among their key domestic figures.

His future has been questioned due to a decline in performance, particularly from foreign owners who are not known for their patience. Howe is seen to be essential to the Magpies’ success, as they are operating under a five-year plan that saw them qualify for Europe’s top table at least two years ahead of schedule last term.

Newcastle has lost to Everton, Tottenham, Luton, and most recently Nottingham Forest since defeating Manchester United on December 2. Their European adventure came to an end as they lost to AC Milan in the northeast after being in a challenging group.

Even though they led Chelsea with two minutes remaining at Stamford Bridge, their chances of making it to another Carabao Cup final are now ended following their loss in the round of eight. But this term, Howe has demonstrated what he is still capable of producing in a split second.

The team’s performance versus PSG in the Champions League was largely determined by both of those matches. One of their best European evenings was a thrilling 4-1 victory at home, and they only drew at the Parc des Princes after a contentious stoppage time penalty was converted.

Earlier in the season, Howe also helped United defeat them 3-0 at home in the Carabao Cup. Newcastle celebrated their win despite the Red Devils’ struggles by fielding a starting lineup that featured eight players Howe inherited, dispelling any notion that he has been bankrolled.

Another big loss has been the absence of Sandro Tonali, their big summer acquisition from Milan. The Italian, who scored on his debut, was found guilty of breaking gambling regulations and is currently serving a lengthy sentence.
