Newcastle are apparently still ‘genuinely interested’ in PSG striker Hugo Ekitike, who might leave the French club this summer.

Eddie Howe’s squad has had an impressive start to the season, currently holding the seventh position in the Premier League. However, the manager is eager to strengthen the team in January, with a primary focus on acquiring a new striker. Despite having Callum Wilson and Alexander Isak, Newcastle is contemplating the addition of a frontman to enhance their chances of securing a top-four position in the latter part of the season.

The in-form Stuttgart center-forward Serhou Guirassy has captured Newcastle’s genuine interest, alongside their consideration of Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin. Additionally, there are indications that the Magpies might revisit their interest in Ekitike, a player they were heavily linked with in the summer of 2022.

It’s worth noting that other Premier League clubs like West Ham and Everton are also eyeing the PSG star, setting the stage for potential competition among several teams for the striker’s services in the upcoming January transfer window.

Ektike was regarded as one of France’s most promising young talents when he joined with PSG in 2022. He has yet to live up to his full ability, and he is struggling for minutes.

Last season, the 21-year-old made 25 league appearances for PSG, scoring three goals. This season, he has only made one league appearance.

New manager Luis Enrique appears to lack confidence in Ekitike’s abilities, suggesting that a move away from the Parc des Princes could be beneficial for the young striker’s development. The interest in Ekitike extends beyond West Ham, with several Premier League clubs eyeing the promising talent.

Transfer journalist Dean Jones asserts that Newcastle is a key contender in the race for Ekitike’s signature, emphasizing the club’s enduring interest in the player. Despite Ekitike not choosing Newcastle in the past, it is believed that the previous decision won’t hinder their pursuit. There is a growing concern at Newcastle about potential shortcomings in the attack in the upcoming year, prompting them to explore options to revitalize or reinforce their offensive capabilities.

Given Ekitike’s limited playing time at PSG, Newcastle sees him as a player with promising potential, supported by well-sourced scouting reports. Newcastle’s upcoming match against PSG could have implications for the ongoing transfer saga, even though Ekitike is unlikely to feature in the game.
