Unai Emery’s team moved up to fourth place in the rankings after a 2-1 victory against Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Aston Villa moved up to fourth place in the Premier League table after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on Sunday.

A minute of applause was held before the game to honor former Tottenham manager Terry Venables, whose death was disclosed hours before kickoff.

In the 22nd minute, Giovani lo Celso unleashed a strong effort from the edge of the box, and a tiny deflection from Diego Carlos caught Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez off guard.

Pau Torres headed home Douglas Luiz’s free kick from the touchline seven minutes into first-half injury time to tie the game.

Just after the half-hour mark, replacement Youri Tielemans played a quick one-two, giving England striker Ollie Watkins a glimpse at goal, and the England forward tapped home into the bottom corner.

Villa have now won eight of their past ten games, moving them up to fourth in the rankings and level on 28 points with third-place Liverpool.

“We didn’t have the best of starts, we were lucky to come in at 1-1,” Watkins, who scored his 12th goal of the season, remarked. “That goal right before halftime was a huge boost for us, and it was crucial

“I don’t think there’s ever been a game where we didn’t create opportunities.” We have a lot of faith in ourselves. We had numerous scoring chances and came away with three points, which is huge for us.

“The games are coming thick and fast now, but when you’re on a roll like we are, that’s exactly what you want.” “I believe the lads are all looking forward to it.”

Spurs have now lost three games in a row after going ten games unbeaten this season, with the North London club grabbing the lead in each of them.

However, despite this, manager Ange Postecoglou expressed immense satisfaction, stating he couldn’t be happier with his team’s performance, which included three disallowed goals by Son Heung-min due to offside calls.

“It’s a challenging outcome, but I am incredibly pleased with how the boys performed. I’m genuinely proud of them; I believe we played some exceptional football, and on a different day, we would have secured a comfortable win. I can’t fault the effort they invested in the game.”

“There’s no frustration. We played well, and as a manager, that’s all one can desire. Sometimes, the results don’t align with your wishes, but as a manager, I want the players dedicated to our objectives, and they were all fully committed.”

“On another occasion, we might have scored a few goals, but it was a mix of exceptional goalkeeping and the woodwork. From my standpoint, all I can ask is for the effort they gave. The players delivered an exceptional football match, and as a manager, that’s our utmost expectation.”
