Roma’s coach, Jose Mourinho, vehemently rejects any notion that he intentionally incurred a touchline ban for Sunday’s Serie A showdown with Inter Milan

Speaking with Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, Mourinho also believes that Inter, given their squad, should be dominating the league title race.

Roma is set to face Inter at the San Siro in the upcoming weekend, but Mourinho won’t be on the touchline for the encounter. The Portuguese coach was ejected for his protests during Roma’s Serie A victory over Monza on Sunday.

The absence of Mourinho for the Inter match is noteworthy, as the San Siro holds a special place for the Nerazzurri. Mourinho previously managed Inter for two seasons, securing the European Treble during the 2009-10 campaign. This has fostered strong admiration from Inter supporters towards Mourinho, and it’s reciprocated.

Nonetheless, with Mourinho unable to be on the touchline for Sunday’s game, he will miss out on a potentially warm reception from Inter fans, unless, as some cynics have suggested, he’s avoiding it intentionally.

Mourinho firmly denies any deliberate maneuver to evade the Inter fans, dismissing the notion as absurd. He remarked, “Sorry for talking negatively. But there are idiots saying the kinds of things that only an idiot could say. And then it’s even more idiotic when someone from the world of football says it.”

Mourinho emphasizes his role as Roma’s coach and his desire to be present with his team during the match. He expressed his regret about the incident against Monza that led to his ban, adding, “The thing that I regret is that I won’t be able to be with my player.”

Looking ahead to the Sunday match, Mourinho also shares his perspective, stating, “We’re playing against a team who should, in my view, win the title with a twenty-point advantage,” referring to Inter.
