Roma’s Forward Lukaku Awaits the Right Moment to Share Unfiltered Truth on 2023 Transfer Saga
Roma striker Romelu Lukaku is poised to reveal the untold story behind the summer’s transfer controversy, setting the record straight. Lukaku, currently on loan from Chelsea, is preparing to surprise the football world by divulging the real events that transpired during his transfer saga in 2023.
“I’m waiting for the perfect moment,” Lukaku stated. “You all know me. I’m not one to beat around the bush when I speak, and I don’t engage in politics. I’m aware of what has unfolded behind the scenes, but when I choose to share my side of the story, I want everyone to truly hear me out, without any misinterpretations. The right time hasn’t arrived yet. We’re in a good flow. At Roma, we’ve won our last three matches, and I left with positive feelings. It’s also an important week for the national team. But I’ve read a lot of nonsense.”
Lukaku continued, “I was rumored to have committed to a specific club [Inter Milan], but that didn’t make sense. There were also certain clubs I would never go to [Juventus]. At one point, I was on the verge of losing my cool. When 90 percent of what’s said about you is untrue, it’s challenging to stay silent. I would’ve definitely exploded five years ago, but now I didn’t invest my energy into it. Not now either. If I were to tell the complete truth right now, many would be taken aback.”

He aspires to follow the example of NBA player LeBron James, saying, “I want to emulate the mentality of LeBron James, even though I’m not like him. He faced a lot of criticism head-on. I want to adopt that mindset.”
Lukaku added, “I spent the entire summer focusing on what I do best: playing football. Many have spoken on my behalf, but I’ve dedicated myself to rigorous training. The more intense the negotiations with AS Roma became, the harder I trained. I owe thanks to Radja Nainggolan for his insights about the club and its supporters. Additionally, I had discussions with Jose Mourinho. I hadn’t been performing at my best for two years due to injuries, a disappointing World Cup, and sitting on the bench in Champions League matches. Finding a club where I could shoulder responsibility and play alongside teammates who could achieve something was crucial. I never doubted that it would work out with Mourinho.”
