After West Ham’s crushing defeat against Aston Villa on Sunday [October 22], some fans have turned against manager David Moyes for the first time in a very long time.

West Ham United suffered a heavy 4-1 loss to a team they are expected to compete with for a European spot in the Premier League, highlighting their recent struggles. With just one win in five league matches, the team’s strong start to the season has lost some of its shine. West Ham is currently in ninth place, five points behind fifth-placed Villa, and they need a strong response in their upcoming league match against Everton. The pressure on Moyes is likely to increase, especially if they lose to the lower-ranked Everton. Adding to Moyes’ concerns, Emerson Palmieri, one of the regular starters, will miss the match due to a one-match suspension following his fifth yellow card of the season in the defeat against Villa.

Emerson has been a constant presence in West Ham United’s lineup, featuring in all nine Premier League matches this season, alongside Jarrod Bowen and Kurt Zouma, who have played every minute. This consistency is due to Emerson’s commendable performances and a limited pool of options in the left-back position. With Emerson’s suspension, manager Moyes may turn to Aaron Cresswell or Thilo Kehrer to fill the void against Everton.

The absence of additional left-back options is a glaring oversight, especially considering the club’s successful overall transfer dealings in the summer, with Ian Maatsen being a notable name linked to the position. While it might seem unlikely that Moyes’ position is at risk, football’s dynamics can be unpredictable, and the manager is well aware of that. Hopefully, the chosen left-back against Everton can rise to the occasion and help West Ham return to their winning ways.
