The most recent transfer news regarding Nottingham Forest, as Steve Cooper’s Reds approach the January transfer window

Borna Barisic, a defender for Rangers, is apparently still of interest to Nottingham Forest. In the summer, the 30-year-old was linked to the Reds as they sought to bolster their squad following their Premier League survival.

One position they prioritized strengthening was full-back, and they reportedly had left-back Barisic on their radar. TEAMtalk claims that Forest is still considering the Croatia international. However, it appears that others share their enthusiasm.

In the summer, Trabzonspor, a Turkish team, had an offer turned down. Additionally, it’s reported that a number of other European teams “would be keen” to sign him in the future.

Barisic’s contract expires at the end of the current campaign, thus in January he is free to negotiate with other teams. To try to prevent losing him for nothing, the Rangers have reportedly proposed a new two-year contract in light of this.

Even if he signs a contract extension, it appears that a move might still be in the works. The Scottish group reportedly “will hope to cash in” if new arrangements are reached.

After Renan Lodi, a left-back on loan, joined Marseille, Forest needed a replacement going into the summer. Despite being natively right-footed, free agent Ola Aina had come in and made that position his own until injuries kept him out of the last two games.

Head coach Steve Cooper started Moussa Niakhate at left back against Brentford since Aina and Tavares were out. Harry Toffolo made an impact off the bench after he was sent off for a second bookable offense. He later started the match versus Crystal Palace before the international break.

Neco Williams and Serge Aurier can also play on the left flank. Omar Richards is still under contract at the City Ground, but he is currently trying to get over his injury problems by going on loan to Olympiacos.
