The manager of Wrexham AFC, Phil Parkinson, will not dwell on missing out on Luke Armstrong.

After the signing of Luke Armstrong fell through, Phil Parkinson claims that earning the team’s first League Two away victory of the year was the ideal pick-me-up.

On the day of the transfer deadline, the Reds’ manager moved quickly, signing goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo from Arsenal on a season-long loan and bringing in Millwall midfielder George Evans from the Championship.

Before the transfer window closed at 11 p.m. on Friday, it appeared that Armstrong had also left Harrogate Town for an unknown sum, but Wrexham issued a statement saying: “Unfortunately, the required documentation and clearance requests could not be completed in time and his registration has been rejected.”

Parkinson said, “Mixed,” when questioned about his feelings over what happened on transfer deadline day.

“We needed another goalkeeper, and we brought Arthur in because we don’t know where Rob Lainton is at this point in his injury, and we wanted to make sure we had enough until January.

“George is a great act; he’s spent the majority of his career playing at the Championship level.

“We felt we couldn’t pass up the chance to bring him to the football club because he is a tremendously excellent footballer and gives us quality in that midfield.

But it goes without saying that the situation involving Luke Armstrong is disappointing because a lot of effort was put into finding Luke and bringing him to the club.

“But for whatever reason, that fell short, and we are disappointed, but in football, you have disappointments, and you can’t feel sorry for yourself because no one else does,” the speaker said.

In retaliation, Wrexham defeated Tranmere Rovers 1-0. The Reds were in complete control throughout and secured a well-deserved victory thanks to Aaron Hayden’s strike in the second half.

“You have to pick yourself up as a group,” Parkinson continued, “and the lads have responded brilliantly against Tranmere.”

With the support we received, winning a local derby was an amazing feeling.

Simon Weaver, the manager of Harrogate, hopes that Armstrong’s abandoned plan still succeeds.

Weaver, who replaced Armstrong on Friday by bringing in Josh March from Stevenage, said: “I’m aware there might be an appeal from Wrexham. I spoke to their manager, Phil Parkinson, and he expressed disappointment, but maybe everyone will come out ah.ead in this situation
