Wrexham were good value for first League Two away win of the season

Wrexham deserved to win by more than one goal after completely dominating the widely anticipated game against Tranmere Rovers.

The Reds met their old foes again at Prenton Park, and it was one of the most comfortable 1-0 victories you’ll ever witness, with Aaron Hayden’s 56th-minute goal clinching three points.

Wrexham played really well and dominated from start to finish, but Rovers were terrible throughout and couldn’t lay a hand on Phil Parkinson’s team.

Wrexham earned their first League Two away win of the season, and while the margin may have been greater, winning was all that counted.

Here’s how the players rated.

MARK HOWARD: Safe pair of hands and also made a couple of good saves from two rare chances. 7

RYAN BARNETT: Both wing-backs were a threat, causing Tranmere all sorts of problems throughout the game. 8

AARON HAYDEN: Continued his comeback from injury by scoring the winning goal, and played his part in shut-out. 7

BEN TOZER: A clean sheet never looked it doubt as Wrexham dealt with everything Tranmere threw at them. 7

WILL BOYLE: Wrexham’s back-line has had its critics but they did very well, helping to secure a derby win. 7

JAMES MCCLEAN: Had a lot of joy down the left and came close to scoring as well. Showed his class. 9

LUKE YOUNG: The Wrexham midfield was effective, winning the battles as they outplayed and outfought Tranmere. 7

TOM O’CONNOR: Commanding figure as the holding midfielder and had the assist for Hayden’s goal. 7

ELLIOT LEE: The playmaker tried to make things happen as Wrexham dominated from start to finish. 7

SAM DALBY: Wrexham’s hold-up play was good and Dalby had a chance to score first half. 7
