After losing to Ipswich Town 1-0 at home, Sheffield Wednesday vehemently denounced the “unacceptable” behavior of some of their supporters. Following unsatisfactory incidents before and after our game against Ipswich Town on Saturday, the Owls issue a reminder on fan conduct, according to a statement posted on the team’s website yesterday night.

“One person vandalized a flag owned by other supporters and was kicked out of the stadium right afterwards. Now this person faces all club consequences and maybe legal action.

The club is also aware of frightening and violent video footage that was shared on social media after this match, and it urges anyone with information about the perpetrators to come forward.

The club’s commitment to ensuring the safest environment for all fans attending games at Hillsborough is undercut by such activities, which we strongly condemn and fully disassociate ourselves from.

“We again stress that anyone found in violation of the EFL Ground Regulations will be subject to immediate club consequences and, if necessary, the full power of the law.

“This season, the EFL, Premier League, FA, FSA, PGMOL, LMA, and PFA have joined forces to put a number of measures in place to combat behavior throughout the game.

“This includes new policies, procedures, and regulations to outlaw unacceptable behavior, as well as increased sanctions applied to anyone found entering the pitch, using pyrotechnics, using drugs at games, throwing objects or missiles toward the field of play, or displaying discriminatory behavior,”

“The new measures build on the work begun last season to combat risky and unlawful fan behavior, supported by the football-wide campaign ‘Love Football. Protect the Game,’ to which Sheffield Wednesday firmly adhere.”

Before the game began, pictures and videos of the ‘Thank You Dejphon Chansiri’ banner being vandalized and then removed appeared on social media. Recent weeks have seen calls for Chansiri to sell up from some fans who are unhappy with the way the Owls owner is managing the team.

Wednesday suffered their sixth loss in six Championship games when Conor Chaplin scored just before halftime. Tonight at Hillsborough, Xisco Munoz’s team will host bottom-of-the-table Middlesbrough.
