George Pickford, the goalie for the Everton under-18 team, has signed his first professional contract at Goodison Park, the club announced on May 10.

Toffees announced via the team’s official website that he has inked a two-year contract, tying his future to the team through June 2026.

Since moving to Goodison Park when he was eleven years old, the 17-year-old has advanced through the ranks and even participated in senior team training.

Director of Football Kevin Thelwell responded to the announcement by saying, “We’re really pleased to have George sign this deal with the Club.” His performance with the Under-18s this season has been outstanding, and his minutes with the Under-21s and training sessions with Sean’s team demonstrate the opportunities available to our budding players.

“We are excited for George to keep improving while he plays for Everton.”

Can Pickford be the next Pickford at Everton?

The teenager’s future at the club looks promising as he signs his first professional contract.

The young goalkeeper has made significant strides in his development, showcasing his talent during the 2023/24 campaign.

His impressive performances for the under-18s and progression to the under-21s have not gone unnoticed, earning him training sessions with the senior team.

Jordan Pickford, the goalie for the current first team, has showed a lot of potential to follow in his footsteps under the coaching of Andy Lonergan and Leighton Baines.

His desire to play for the senior team is clear, and he is headed in the right direction as evidenced by his recent contract extension.

George Pickford and other young players have opportunity to advance through the ranks and maybe play for the senior team thanks to the Finch Farm pathway.

George Pickford has a bright future ahead of him and has a good chance of succeeding Jordan Pickford as Everton’s senior goalkeeper with more effort, devotion, and coaching.
