Malik Nabers, a wide receiver and first-round selection of the New York Giants, purchased his mother a house for Mother’s Day. Terrion Arnold, a first-round cornerback for the Detroit Lions, may not be as considerate of his mother this weekend, though.
Not that Arnold and his mother aren’t close. On May 10, the rookie cornerback addressed his mother in front of reporters, calling her his “rock.” However, it seems that she enjoys acting a little tough.
“I had to really beat my mom in racing when I used to win against her as a child. When I was younger, we used to fight while just playing around or wrestling,” Arnold said reporters. “Man, I’ll never forget that we were just going at it so hard that my mom kicked out my tooth once.”
If Arnold learned anything from that kind of relationship, it’s that he won’t allow anyone to stand in the way of his NFL dreams.
Arnold remarked, “I would slam my mom into the earth if she were lined up opposite me as a receiver right now. My mother is aware of my mentality.
“But I just mean it as a basic football aspect; that’s just how I was raised and how I think about things.”
Terrion Arnold Fits With the Detroit Lions
Talking about knocking down your own mother will be excessive for some, especially on Mother’s Day weekend. But if the Lions created a first-round cornerback in a laboratory, he would probably have an attitude exactly like Arnold’s.
After all, Detroit’s head coach is Dan Campbell, who mentioned biting off kneecaps in his opening press conference with the team in January 2021.
“There might be a long distance from biting the kneecap of an opposing player to jamming your mother in the dirt if she lined up against you, but it speaks to Arnold’s commitment to giving the Lions everything he’s got no matter the situation,” wrote Bleacher Report’s Adam Wells.
