Rutter’s assertion that the Whites are the greatest team in the Championship has been ridiculed by Mavididi.

After a decisive 3-0 victory over Preston North End on Monday, Leicester City was named the Championship champions. If the Foxes overcome relegation-threatened Blackburn Rovers on the last day of the season, they might end the campaign with 100 points.

Even though they won the championship with one game remaining, Enzo Maresca’s team has lost ten games this year, so it hasn’t always been easy sailing.

For the Championship winners, this is a lot of games lost; in contrast, Burnley, the 2022–2023 winners, only dropped three games en route to winning the league and 101 points.

After losing back-to-back games to Middlesbrough and Leeds United in February, the Foxes’ hold on the Championship trophy appeared to be in jeopardy.

After late goals from Connor Roberts, Archie Gray, and Patrick Bamford helped Daniel Farke’s Whites overcome Maresca’s team 3-1 on February 23, the Yorkshire team began to fancy their chances of winning the title.

But the Foxes have seized the glory by finishing the season strong, winning three of their final five games, while the Whites have only won one, meaning they no longer have the chance to win the title or automatic promotion.

The Foxes ace took to X in the early hours of Monday morning to make fun of the Whites’ failure to claim Championship glory despite their previous title hopes.

The 25-year-old posted a video of himself brushing his teeth over the top of Whites stars Archie Gray and Georginio Rutter’s post-match interviews following their win over the Foxes.

Rutter claimed: “We are the best team I think.”

Following Leicester’s title triumph, Mavididi has made fun of Rutter’s claim that the Whites are the best team in the Championship.

Foxes have a tough task on their hands to achieve 100 points

Maresca’s men have done a stellar job to reach both of their ambitions for automatic promotion, and the title, but earning a 100 points tally would make 2023/24 an even more memorable season for the King Power Stadium outfit.

The opportunity to achieve such a remarkable feat in front of home supporters should excite the Foxes, but Saturday’s fixture also comes as somewhat of a banana skin.

There is a risk that after winning the league title on Monday night, the Midlands outfit will be susceptible to taking their feet off the gas, while opponents Blackburn Rovers still have everything to play for.

The Lancashire team needs a draw to ensure their place in the Championship, but a loss together with victories for Plymouth, Sheffield Wednesday, and Birmingham would force Rovers back into League One, which is something they would not want.

While the Foxes don’t have as much on the line, John Eustace’s team will be desperate to stay in the second tier going into their match on Saturday afternoon at King Power Stadium.

whereas Maresca’s team would be proud of themselves if they finished with 100 points, they have already secured the championship, whereas Rovers need a point to secure their place in the playoffs, thus an upset in Leicester seems likely.
