Alexander Isak is on a roll for Newcastle United right now with the Swede gunning for the Premier League Golden Boot.
Isak has scored in each of his last seven games at St James’ Park and is just two goals behind the Premier League’s top scorer, Erling Haaland and one behind Cole Palmer in second place.
Given Newcastle’s shaky form this season and the amount of games Isak missed through injury or indeed played when nowhere near 100% fit, the fact that he’s so close to the top shows just how much of a lethal marksman we have on our hands.
While Newcastle aren’t at St James’ Park on Saturday, there’s still an interesting stat spotted by X user Mo Yassin (@MrMMYassin) heading into the game that should give Newcastle fans some confidence.

In games against opposition who play in claret and blue this season, Alexander Isak has made five appearances and scored seven goals. That’s not good news for Burnley.
Newcastle need just one more goal this season to beat their record number of goals scored in a 38-game Premier League season, and Isak needs just one more to be the first Newcastle player to score 20 Premier League goals in a season since Alan Shearer in 2004.
The former seems inevitable given how free-scoring Newcastle have been this season, but it remains to be seen if Isak can add to his tally in the final four games.
We back Isak to get beyond 20 Premier League goals this season
We, and probably everyone else who’s seen him play lately, will definitely back Isak to break that 20-goal barrier. In fact, we back him for the Golden Boot still.
The one thing that has eluded Isak this season is his first Premier League hat-trick, and Saturday seems like the perfect opportunity to grab it. Another relegation-threatened side and a side who play in claret and blue – it’s all teed up beautifully for him.
Again, though, like we said before the Sheffield United game, the most important thing is the win. The three points keeps us in the race for Europe, whoever gets the goal(s) is secondary to that.
