They say that every pot has a lid, and it appears that Hugo Ekitike has at last found his.

The 21-year-old appears to have finally found a new home after turning down Newcastle United and signing with Paris Saint-Germain only to watch his career crash and burn.

The summer before last, there was a protracted drama involving Newcastle and the former Rennes striker. Several rumors surfaced indicating that Newcastle had reached an agreement to acquire the talented young player, but the deal fell through when PSG became more interested.

It would be a slight understatement to say that it infuriated Newcastle supporters, but you can understand why the young Frenchman’s head was turned given the chance to fulfill a dream and play for the biggest team in his native country.

Frankfurt have opted to keep Ekitike despite him not even scoring for them yet

The move didn’t work out with Ekitike a rarely used substitute and having his commitment and attitude called into question several times. The season-long loan from Rennes contained an obligation to buy so PSG were stuck with him until they loaned him out in January to Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt.

Since then, Ekitike has gone on to make 11 appearances and registered no goals and just one assist, but Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the German side are willing to make the deal a permanent one for £14million.

Ekitike was linked again with Newcastle last summer and again in January as the forward struggled at PSG before moving to Germany.

Newcastle dodged a bullet

We’re absolutely buzzing for Ekitike finally getting a move away from PSG, especially as it’s not to Newcastle.

After what he did to us back in 2022, we’re not sure many fans would have forgiven him and it would have made for a poor atmosphere for the lad and he clearly doesn’t react well when things aren’t going his way.

I’ve said it many times and I stick by it – Newcastle dodged a bullet by missing out on this one. He has the potential, sure, but he does not have the mentality or the attitude to make it at Newcastle.
