The manager of the Hammers feels that following their disastrous loss to Newcastle on Saturday, his team was much more aggressive and defensively resolute.

David Moyes lauded his West Ham team’s tenacity after they overcame a late loss at Newcastle on Saturday to draw 1-1 with Tottenham.

After his team gave up three goals in the last 13 minutes at St James’s Park to blow a 3-1 lead, Moyes had grown angry with the lack of effort displayed.

The Scot might have anticipated something similar when his team lost to Spurs at home in the first five minutes on Tuesday, but Kurt Zouma’s header gave his team a chance to respond.

“In the end, I believe it was probably a fair result,” Moyes remarked. “We performed really well tonight, demonstrating a lot more defensive resiliency than we did over the weekend, in my opinion.

“We were much more aggressive, much more resilient defensively. We had to be, against a really good team.

“Overall, if you’re giving me four points off Spurs before the season started, I’d have shook your hand and walked away and said ‘thanks very much’.”

Despite being on the wrong end of a dramatic comeback at Newcastle last weekend, the Hammers have now picked up 15 points from losing positions in the Premier League this season.

Throughout my career, I would like all of my teams to have that mindset, Moyes continued. “I’ve made an effort to impart that tenacious, fighting attitude.

“I believe the boys wanted to try and show that, and they did so in large quantities. It may not always work even when you can demonstrate it.

After four minutes, you would have wondered, ‘What’s going on here?’ They score, just like they did over the weekend.
