Even though Zian Flemming leads Millwall in offensive metrics, the former Fortuna Sittard forward is not content with his 2023–24 campaign.

The Lions’ number ten scored in the team’s 2-1 victory over Southampton on Saturday from the penalty spot.

Flemming leads the team in both goals scored (six), one more than summer acquisition Kevin Nisbet, and assists (4).

With 33 opportunities created, Flemming has the most on the team.

Taking into account that Millwall is struggling to stay in the Championship and is near the bottom of the table, those numbers seem reasonable.
The Magpies have already profited financially from their trip to Ewood Park, having received £125,000 from both teams for the BBC’s choice to broadcast the match. If United defeats the previous Premier League winners, they will receive an additional £225,000 in prize money, bringing their total earnings from the FA Cup run to nearly £770,000.

“Those seasons which the team goes through are the hardest ones,” Flemming told the South London Press before the Southampton match. “Also for a player like me, I want to decide games and score goals. If we’re struggling as a team that is always going to be harder – to make that difference.

“I know this, but I tend not to look at it this way because I always try and spin things around. All I can do is look in the mirror and tell myself: “If I somehow manage to get more goals and more assists that will obviously mean we score more goals”.

“I’m looking at it from a personal perspective for me. I’m not going to look at it and say: ‘I’m top goalscorer – that’s still decent’. I’ve got my own standards and those are higher than where I am right now.

“I won’t stop until I get where I want it to be, even though it is harder. It also makes it a bigger challenge but I also like challenges, so that could be a good fit.”
