The £8.5 million transfer of Uruguayan defender Santiago Bueno from Girona to Wolves has been completed.

The 24-year-old Bueno, who has two international caps, signed a five-year deal with the West Midlands club.

Also announced by Wolves is the arrival of winger Enso Gonzalez, 18, from Paraguayan team Libertad.

Under the condition of international clearance and a work permit, he signs a six-year contract for a sum that is estimated to be around 12 million euros (£10 million).

The pair from South America are Wolves’ first new additions since Gary O’Neil was named manager earlier this month.

O’Neil said on Thursday that he hopes to bolster his team before Friday’s summer transfer deadline by bringing in midfielder Matheus Nunes of Portugal, who is reportedly on his way to Manchester City for a reputed fee of £53 million.

Tommy Doyle of City, an England Under-21 midfielder, is also anticipated to bolster O’Neil’s team, and the club has also been extensively connected with a deal for Fulham midfielder Harrison Reed.

“The recruitment team is working incredibly hard to assemble a squad that is balanced. By the end of the window, the team will be in a better position than it was last week, said O’Neil.

Wolves have already added six players to their roster this summer, including free agents Matt Doherty and Tom King, as well as permanent loan signings for Boubacar Traore and Matheus Cunha.

Bueno joined Girona from Barcelona B in 2019 and made 102 league appearances for them. After Girona was promoted from the Segunda Division, he played in La Liga last season.

In a friendly match against Japan in Tokyo earlier this year, he made his Uruguayan debut on the world stage.

Gonzalez made his debut for the Paraguayan Primera Division squad in September 2022, and since January he has scored three goals in 23 league contests.
