Senior Tottenham officials reportedly desired to sign Kalvin Phillips in January. Kalvin Phillips has come under fire for his actions earlier today as West Ham suffered a setback.
The remarks were made by Mike Dean, a pundit for Sky Sports Soccer Saturday.
After Tottenham expressed interest in Kalvin Phillips last month, what was said about him? Let’s examine this.
Kalvin Phillips branded “stupid” after red card
When the 55-year-old saw that the England international had received two yellow cards at the City Ground, he did not hold back in the Sky Sports studio.
Nottingham Forest ultimately prevailed 2-0 over West Ham in the end.
“He had just received a warning for engaging in unnecessary contact with (Nicolas) Dominguez, and two minutes later, he’s caught (Morgan Gibbs-White) on the top of the foot,” Dean stated.
“Another foolish yellow card. He’s messing around and wasting his time; he doesn’t even appear engaged.
It comes after the Northern Echo claimed that senior figures at Tottenham wanted to sign Phillips in January to bolster Ange Postecoglou’s midfield department.
Ultimately, Spurs landed Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin, but did not sign a new midfielder.
Tottenham may have dodged a bullet
Phillips has endured a nightmarish start to life on loan at West Ham – to say the least.
The Yorkshireman lost possession right on the edge of West Ham’s box minutes into his debut against Bournemouth, which cost the Hammers a goal after Dominic Solanke slotted in.
The match ultimately ended in a 1-1 draw.
Then, in West Ham’s 3-0 loss to Manchester United, Phillips gave over the ball once more, allowing Alejandro Garnacho to score. In his third game, he lost 6-0 to Arsenal.
Following his dismissal in his fourth West Ham game, it appears Tottenham may have escaped a dire situation by not signing the £42 million player.
