Everton is among numerous teams who have not made a single acquisition in January due to financial issues that are evidently affecting the entire division.

Many had anticipated a quiet month, particularly after Kevin Thelwell effectively warned Evertonians not to expect much, but unsurprisingly, reports detailing some interest have continued to surface.

Beneath the surface, it has probably not been as barren as many outsiders might imagine, from Arnaut Danjuma successors to shooing off suitors chasing their top players.

Stars like Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite require a lot of work to keep them around.

But if this most recent rumor turns out to be true, it might all be worth it as a chance to assemble a defense around this prospective new addition and the latter of the previously stated pair.

Who are Everton trying to sign this January?

As previously mentioned, attacking additions such as Luis Henrique, Jack Harrison, and Jhon Cordoba could provide the necessary reinforcement for Everton’s deteriorating front line.

But it’s unlikely that a new forward would have much of an influence given that players like Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are fighting for the starting striker position, leaving Youssef Chermiti without a single Premier League start.

However, there’s a huge hole at the back for Sean Dyche, who probably knows full well how much his starting duo of James Tarkowski and Branthwaite differs from the other center defenders.

Thelwell is apparently now interested in Boca Juniors wonderkid Aaron Anselmino, 18, after appearing to recognize this.

They are among several suitors interested in the $20 million (£16 million) phenomenon who is already a mainstay for the Argentine team, as reported by Planeta Boca Juniors.

Whilst that might represent a high fee, it is also one the Toffees might be confident of negotiating due to the unknown nature of the player.

Who is Aaron Anselmino?

Thelwell has the right to take some chances because he has demonstrated such proficiency in the market, even though there isn’t much data available on the adolescent center-back.

If the six-foot-one monster quickly picks up skills from James Tarkowski to prepare for a starting role behind Branthwaite, it’s probably a move that would safeguard their backline’s future for the next ten years.

Being a graduate of an academy that produced football legends like Carlos Tevez, Ever Banega, and Fernando Gaga, he already has five senior outings to his name, which speaks volumes about his caliber.

To place his inexperience, but clear quality, beside the England U21 international could be a stroke of genius, as the 21-year-old only continues to mature far beyond his years.Everton FC v Newcastle United - Premier League

According to Sofascore, he has already established himself as one of Dyche’s most valuable players this season with 4.7 clearances and 6.4 ball recoveries per game in the league.

Anselmino would have access to a plethora of defensive quality on Merseyside, where he could hopefully learn from the best and shape Everton’s future for a small fee in the current transfer window.
