October 6, 2024

At the start of the 2024 signing window, the Atlanta Braves made a big move by signing 17-year-old infielder Jose Perdomo to a minor league contract. The $5 million incentive that comes with the deal broke all previous records and established a new benchmark for players who are Venezuelan-born. It is also the highest bonus amount ever witnessed on the first day of a signing period.

A Record-Breaking Bonus

This noteworthy incentive is more than simply a sum of money; it also represents the Braves’ faith in Perdomo’s abilities. Perdomo, who stands 5-foot-11 and weighs 170 pounds, is renowned for his strong hitting abilities and shortstop defensive brilliance. Additionally, the majority of the $5.9 million international bonus pool that the Braves have available is depleted by the bonus.

High Anticipation Surrounding Perdomo

Fans and pundits alike are anticipating and excited about Perdomo’s signing. He’s anticipated to advance to the top of the Braves prospect pool and have a productive career. This summer, the youthful phenom is scheduled to make his Dominican Summer League debut, signaling the start of what many anticipate will be a successful career.

A Busy First Day for The Braves

With the announcement of the signing of 12 free agents on the first day of the international signing period, the Braves have undoubtedly been busy. Perdomo separated out from the rest with his bonus, which broke records. Juan Espinal, an outfielder, also apparently received a $440,000 bonus. Perdomo received the majority of the $5,925,000 bonus pool allocated to the team. Bonuses for other participants ranged from $60,000 to $30,000. Signings that did not exceed $10,000 were not included in the bonus pool.
