Marseille reportedly felt pressure to sign Josh Doig from Hellas Verona by Friday night, but as of Monday morning, the player was still in Italy. This indicates that the Serie A team’s efforts to recruit Ridvan Yilmaz from Rangers have not yet materialized.

After becoming dissatisfied under Philippe Clément, the Turkish left-back has been tipped to be one of the players leaving Ibrox in January. The Italians were reportedly his first destination, at least more so than going back to his native Turkey.

Gazzetta dello Sport and Corriere Di Verona provided the most recent information on the situation on Monday. Rangers, on the other hand, were reportedly interested in Doig as well, although they appear to be outmatched by Marseille in that regard.

In a very straightforward manner, the former state that the Rangers player is “the target” to take the left-back’s place in Verona.

The local publication, however, is far more upbeat, reporting that Verona is “very close” to the 22-year-old, who has started the last four games for the Ibrox team, including the 3-1 victory against Kilmarnock over the weekend in which he also contributed an assist.
It looks the Italians will use that money to entice Rangers to sell their player, as Doig is likely to bring in €6 million plus bonuses.

It remains to be seen, though, whether Clément’s team decides to break ways with a player who has been playing more recently.
