Everton and Nottingham Forest may potentially be submitted to an independent commission, it is said, following their alleged violations of the Premier League’s sustainability and profitability rules.

Ally McCoist and Jeff Stelling have questioned why the Premier League is willing to hold off on potentially docking Everton further points until after the season.

On Sunday night, there was a story stating that Everton and Nottingham Forest would soon receive notice that they are suspected of breaking the Premier League’s sustainability and profitability rules (PSR). It is said that on Monday, both teams will be informed of any allegations and referred to an independent panel.

Over a three-year period, Premier League clubs are allowed to lose up to £105 million (£35 million per season). Forest has never before violated the rules, although Everton has already lost 10 points this season for a different infraction from the 2021–2022 campaign.

Stelling gave his assessment of Everton’s most recent possible punishment in a Monday morning speech, acknowledging that the most bizarre result would be to implement the deduction at the end of the current campaign. At the moment, the Toffees are one point clear of the relegation zone.

“I’m not really sure what more they have to do,” Stelling told talkSPORT. “They’ve sold some of their big names and haven’t really brought anybody in, so what more do they have to do?

“You know the daftest thing about all of this? If there is a charge against any of the clubs and then there is an appeal, the final decision on any sanctions won’t be made until 24 May, five days after the end of the Premier League season.

Everton and Nottingham Forest are both waiting to discover their fate

Everton and Nottingham Forest are both waiting to discover their fate

“So we could finish the Premier League season not knowing their fate, and potentially which division they’re in. I assume a points deduction would be imposed this season… If they’re found in breach they’ll have breached the rules this season, so any penalty will apply this season.”

As McCoist and Stelling wait to hear about their punishment, Everton and Forest have similar views. That’s pure insanity, the legendary Scot stated. After that, Everton or Forest might have a season where they finish two or three points outside of the relegation zone and still be sent down.”

Sean Dyche was asked about the likelihood of extra punishment following Everton’s goalless draw at Aston Villa on Sunday. “We are just waiting on the news,” he stated. As you are aware, the news was unexpected the last time; we’ll have to wait and watch whether it happens again. Before you know, you don’t know. If and when the information is received, I’ll provide more details.”
