According to Mikael Silvestre, Arsenal would be overpaying if they agreed to acquire Ivan Toney from Brentford.

As Arsenal looks to acquire a striker this month, the England international has been heavily linked to a transfer to the north London side in January.

Nevertheless, little real progress has been made in response to Brentford’s rumored demands of £100 million, as Arsenal has not yet made an official move for Toney.

And in an interview with GGrecon, former defender Silvestre advised the North London team to search for a player elsewhere in the market, saying that £100 million was just too much for a player such as Toney.

“£100m is extremely high,” stated Silvestre. Ivan can’t afford that much money, even though I know goal scorers are quite scarce. I don’t think his price accurately represents his caliber.

“If I were Arsenal, I wouldn’t even consider a move for that amount, and I don’t believe they could even afford to pay that much for a player in the January window when you consider Financial Fair Play. Brentford clearly wants to keep him, which is why the price tag is so high.”
