Since joining Burnley in 2017, Charlie TaylorCharlie Taylor has made over 200 appearances for The Clarets, including 17 this season in their inaugural Premier League campaign.

The former Leeds United player, who nearly left Turf Moor last summer and returned to Elland Road, has established himself as a crucial player this season.

His present agreement with the Lancashire team expires in2024, but finding a new contract isn’t his only concern right now.

Despite earning £30,000 a week, Taylor was placed into bankruptcy last year, according to The Mail, because of outstanding debt.

The 30-year-old left-back has not responded to requests for comment, but the story claims that an administrative error was the cause of the missing payments rather than significant financial difficulties.

Since then, the debt has been paid off, and the application to have the bankruptcy revoked approved is almost complete.

Even though football players make thousands of dollars a week, bankruptcy isn’t all that rare among them.

Due to the early age of retirement for footballers, many go on to experience financial problems later in their life.

Some are fortunate enough to go into coaching or punditry, but for others finding another jobs is sometimes necessary.

The PFA are addressing this by providing financial education to all pros under the age of 21 and referring players to financial advisors.

Despite his issues off the field, Taylor is still putting in performances for Vincent Kompany’s side.

His only goal this season came in a 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth, but if he continues consistently playing then he could be offered a new contract.

However, if a deal isn’t signed soon he will be free to talk to other clubs and Burnley could lose him for nothing in the summer.
