Nottingham Forest have been notoriously busy in recent transfer windows, but this time may be different.

The Athletic has published a piece that makes an intriguing claim. With the start of the new year approaching, we have looked at what one media outlet is now saying about the transfer window from a Forest perspective…

The report details how many players Forest wishes to sign.

The Reds signed 13 new players in the summer and have added 43 new players since winning promotion to the Premier League.

As a result, it should come as no surprise that Nuno Espirito Santo prefers to work with a smaller team at Forest.

According to The Athletic, Forest will only attempt to sign one to three players during the January transfer window.

Strikers and central defenders have been connected, with Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa also linked with Forest.

Forest will put a lot of attention on getting players out the door this month, with some major names likely leaving.

Joe Worrall has been linked with a move to Leicester, while Andrey Santos has already returned to Chelsea following his loan termination.

It is past time for Forest to prioritize quality over quantity.

It is encouraging to learn that Espirito Santo wants to operate with a much smaller group at the City Ground.

Given this, it will be intriguing to see who Forest can offload during the January transfer window.

Some fresh acquisitions will be pursued, but Espirito Santo must secure the players he desires rather than those who are imposed upon him.

In recent years, Forest have been somewhat irresponsible in the transfer market, with far too many additions having little to no influence.

With that in mind, the club must learn their lesson, and the report that no more than three new players will be signed this month is encouraging.
