Kris Boyd was in awe as he witnessed Kyogo Furuhashi down Rangers once more during Celtic’s 2-1 win in the Glasgow derby on Saturday.

Only a few days ago, Celtic’s ace striker Kris Boyd told the world that he ‘can not finish’ like Hearts’ in-form forward Lawrence Shankland following his late winner against Hibernian.

That was slapped in the face as Kyogo Furuhashi scored one of the great derby goals.

After the game, James McFadden made sure to remind his colleague of his words by sarcastically adding, when doing his full-time analysis, that it was a ‘tremendous goal from the league’s second-best finisher,’ as he informed Sky Sports Football (30/12/23 at 2:40 pm).

That remark was not missed by the former Rangers striker, who added, ‘that was a sly little jab there’.

Despite this, he maintained that ‘Lawrence Shankland is a superior finisher’. Clearly still delusional, even after being humbled and watching Kyogo Furuhashi prove his value in these games from the Sky studios in Parkhead.

“Celtic started brilliantly in the second half,” McFadden added. “Outstanding goal from the league’s second-best finisher.” They then took over the game.”

Boyd added: “Take nothing away from Celtic. Once they got ahead, they managed the game. It was a great strike by Kyogo for the second one.

“I still think Lawrence Shankland is a better finisher. That was a cheeky little dig there.”

Boyd then added later on: “Take nothing away from the strike. It’s a fantastic strike. On his bad foot. The same as Shankland the other night.”

McFadden responded: “Is that you giving players pep talks again? He must have been watching the other night thinking ‘I will show him’.”

Kyogo Furuhashi, the new Derby Day King

That’s seven goals for the Japan star in this fixture. Whether it’s at Parkhead, Ibrox, or in a cup final. He does it on all types of occasions, scores all types of goals and steps up when the pressure is really cranked up.

That’s why many will feel Kyogo is the best since Henrik Larsson because he has been an outrageous signing for the club. Plus, to think he is still at the peak of his powers and there is more to come just makes it even more crazy because he could hit serious goalscoring numbers in this fixture.
