Get the most recent Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive, as former Reds striker Glenn Murray discusses his thoughts on Steve Cooper’s dismissal.

Glenn Murray, a former striker for Nottingham Forest, thinks the Reds “could not wait to get rid” of Steve Cooper.

After just one win in their previous 13 games, the Reds fired Cooper on Tuesday. Nuno Espirito Santo, the former manager of Wolves, will take over as manager.

Murray has said that he thought Forest would have continued to improve under Cooper, but he also acknowledges that he wasn’t shocked by the Welshman’s exit.

Murray stated on BBC Radio 5 Live, “I feel he was going to keep Nottingham Forest safe for another year.” “The relationship between Cooper and Nottingham Forest and their return to the top flight has been incredible.

“But am I surprised regardless of results on the field? I am not. It almost feels like they could not wait to get rid of him in some way and bring someone else in.

“He has had a dressing room full of players in his first year in the Premier League. He has done extraordinarily well to gel them together, to get them playing together, and to keep them in the Premier League.

“In my opinion, the right to remain in the Premier League does not alter for the second season in the league. It surprises me, yet it doesn’t surprise me.”
