Scott Brown has acknowledged that he “really didn’t like” El Hadji Diouf, a former Rangers opponent.

While in Glasgow, the former Celtic captain was entangled in a feud with the striker. During derby matches, the two had a number of heated arguments.

And Brown had acknowledged that he had a strong disdain for Diouf – even if he couldn’t pinpoint why.

The former Scotland international, however, joked that Diouf was responsible for his ‘Broony’ celebration and the best yellow card of his career after celebrating with his arms outstretched in front of the striker.

When asked about Diouf on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast, Brown answered, “My pal! I’m not sure what it was about him that made me dislike him so much.

“He had a touch of arrogance about him as well.” I believe he wanted to wind me up just as much as I wanted to wind him up.

“To be fair, I got a celebration out of scoring against him; he was still standing there, and I just put my arms out, and it was the best booking of my entire career.”

“Over the years, we had a lot of battles, which I enjoyed.” He used to be a good player, but I wanted to show him what I was all about.”

Brown couldn’t stop himself from teasing Rangers by correcting Tim Sherwood on the language for Rangers-Celtic matches.

The Celtic hero instantly contradicted Sherwood’s ‘Old Firm’ term, citing the ‘Glasgow derby’ label used by Celtic fans.

“I’ve been up, but I haven’t been to the Old Firm,” Sherwood explained. I went up to scout some players.

But Brown cut him off: “The Glasgow derby…”
