While the summer transfer market is now closed, free agents are still available to Championship clubs looking to enhance their ranks.
The transfer window may have closed last Friday, but that doesn’t mean clubs can’t do business.
The free agency market remains an option for both Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End. There is no immediate deadline for teams to offer contracts to non-contracted players, with the fourth Thursday in March serving as the final day for unregistered players to find a new home.
On deadline day, Rovers considered adding another wide receiver to their roster, but the trade fell through. Similarly, Preston North End chose to stay with what they had at left-wing-back rather than look elsewhere.

James Hill picked Blackburn Rovers owing to parallels in playing style with his parent club Bournemouth.
The 21-year-old is on loan from the Cherries for the season and will help Jon Dahl Tomasson’s defensive options. After selling Ash Phillips and releasing Daniel Ayala, Rovers were desperate for reinforcements.
Hill will battle for a defensive slot with Dom Hyam, Hayden Carter, and Scott Wharton. He selected Rovers as the next stage in his growth because of Tomasson’s expansive, attacking style.
“Regular football and game time keeps you hungry and developing, which is what any player wants to do,
“We have to keep working to be the best version of ourselves, and going out on loan is a great way to do that while also growing as a player.” Nobody is a finished product.
“I believe there is still much for me to work on and learn.” This is a terrific venue for me to do so, and it’s a club where I can learn a lot to help me continue on a trip I’m really enjoying right now. I want to move in the right direction.
