Crystal Palace had several players connected to other clubs, and journalist Ryan Taylor revealed that Roy Hodgson truly liked one of the players who may have been moved this summer.
While the transfer market was open, there were several huge stories for every Premier League club. Except for Wilfried Zaha, Crystal Palace managed to keep all of their key players.
Jean-Philippe Mateta was one player who was heavily connected with a move elsewhere. The forward had a lot of interest from Europe but decided to stay.
No doubt, everyone at Crystal Palace is pleased because the Frenchman scored a hat-trick in the Carabao Cup and provided two crucial assists in the Premier League over the weekend.
Roy Hodgson is a great fan of Mateta, according to Ryan Taylor.
Mateta has already had a significant impact this season, contributing more goals in five games than he did in the entire previous season.
The journalist said of Mateta through GiveMeSport: “I think, if that’s the case, then probably yeah.” Mateta seemed to be on his way out. He’s been the subject of a couple bids from RB Leipzig in Germany. Other German clubs have expressed an interest as well.
“However, I believe Hodgson, from what I understand, is a big fan of Mateta.” He has a thing for him. He certainly scored three goals against Plymouth on Tuesday.
“However, I believe Palace could use a bit more goal threat in the final third.” Odsonne Edouard is fine, although he sometimes flatters to deceive. I believe they could use a wide player, but that may be Matheus Franca.”
