Wrexham has requested the assistance of witnesses to collaborate with both the club and the police following an incident where supporters threw objects at an opposing goalkeeper.

Lancashire Police have launched an inquiry after several Wrexham fans were accused on Saturday of throwing vapes, cigarette lighters, and tiny bottles of alcohol at Accrington Stanley goalkeeper Jon McCracken. The club has now asking for witnesses to the event to come forward and assist in identifying those involved. Wrexham have also stated that such actions may result in “potential disciplinary action, increased policing costs, and reduced ticket allocations for future games.”

The incident happened during the second half of Wrexham’s 2-0 defeat away to Stanley in League Two. Wrexham’s supporters reacted angrily when home goalkeeper McCracken went down after a collision with goalscorer Paul Mullin. Objects were hurled at the goalie from the away end, and while McCracken was not injured, the incident caused a 10-minute delay.

Wrexham issued a statement stating: “We maintain a zero-tolerance stance towards inappropriate conduct at Wrexham AFC matches, whether at home or away. Despite the tremendous support we’ve received this season, we express gratitude to everyone involved. Nevertheless, we want to emphasize to all attendees that individuals found culpable of participating in unacceptable behavior will be subject to the most severe penalties within our capacity as a Football Club.”
