Kevin van Veen has spoken up about Rangers’ interest in him before joining Groningen this summer.

The Dutchman scored 29 goals for Motherwell last season before joining the Eerste Divisie for £500,000.

Van Veen, on the other hand, admits that the transfer back home did not work out since he does not want to leave his newborn child in Scotland.

Before returning to Holland, he indicated that the Ibrox club was interested in him.

“The move back home hasn’t worked out the way I had hoped,” he told the Scottish Sun.

“My girlfriend and I are expecting our first child in a few weeks, and it’s becoming increasingly difficult for me.”

“I knew going to Groningen would be difficult because of our domestic situation, but it has been much more difficult than I expected.”

“I was back in Scotland last week, then returned to Holland. I realised then the next time I made the trip, I might have to hold our baby, then hand him or her back and leave them behind.

“That hit me really hard. Family is so important to me and I think it’s going to be difficult to do that.

“Of course I would listen to Motherwell because I had a successful time there. But last season my agent told me there was definitely interest in me from Rangers, though at my age I maybe don’t fit their profile.

“I had a lot of happy times in Scotland and I’d never rule out more.”
