Oscar Mingueza of Celta Vigo has praised West Ham United as a “great team” and a “very nice team.”

West Ham were said to be ready to launch an offensive for Mingueza and spend up to €20 million (about £17.5 million). Moi Celeste has now highlighted the defender’s comments on Galician Television on a prospective transfer to the Premier League.

Despite his praise for West Ham, Mingueza downplayed the possibility of a move, saying he’s focused on Celta’s upcoming game. “I have nothing planned nor has anyone contacted me,” the man replied. “I’m concentrating on Celta.”

“West Ham are a great team, a very nice team but I am focused on Celta and the match against Valencia.”

West Ham have been connected with a ‘tall, muscular’ defender who ‘oozes calm’.

It is, indeed, a good thing. It demonstrates that the athlete respects his current team and does not want to throw fuel to the fire. At the same time, that doesn’t mean nothing will happen. When the window opens, you never know what will happen.

West Ham could probably use some defensive reinforcements. This season, the Hammers have conceded 22 goals in 12 league games.

Furthermore, there is a specific need to address West Ham’s right flank. Currently, Vladimir Coufal and Ben Johnson occupy the right-back position, but both of their contracts are set to expire in 2024, with the former having an option for an additional year.

Given this situation, a potential move for Mingueza, a Barcelona academy graduate proficient in both right-back and centre-back positions, appears to be a strategic move for West Ham.

In November 2020, 90Min described Mingueza as a “tall, strong central defender” who exudes composure while playing out from the back, a characteristic expected from a Barca starlet. Mingueza is adept with both feet and displays a willingness to initiate attacks by playing the ball between the lines.

Despite not possessing exceptional pace, Mingueza compensates with his tactical acumen in defensive situations, ensuring he positions himself effectively to handle threats rather than relying solely on speed.
