Celtic winger Luis Palma has been praised for his impact on Scottish football by Barry Ferguson and Ally McCoist, but he could have ended up at Rangers last summer

Even though the Premiership winners disregarded Emilio Izaguirre’s advice, the former Celtic left-back suggested Brendan Rodgers start Alberth Elis and Anthony “Choco” Lozano. However, after adding yet another incredible finish to his growing resume over the weekend, the Hoops will be happy to have been made aware of the abilities of another Honduran international.

Luis Palma, who is from the same country in Central America as Izaguirre, is rapidly approaching the status of “bargain of the season.” Rangers lose out to Celtic after they sneaked in and grabbed Palma for £3.5 million from Greek team Aris. For months, there had been rumors that Palma was headed to Ibrox.

Rangers reportedly made a £2.5 million offer a few weeks before the winger, considered a direct replacement for Ryan Kent, joined their Old Firm rivals in Glasgow. It remains unclear why Rangers chose not to increase their bid. With Palma’s transfer fee being lower than what Rangers paid for Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers, questions about their transfer decisions, both in and out, are likely to surface soon.

“At first, I had doubts about Palma,” former Rangers captain Barry Ferguson stated on Go Radio Football. “However, in recent weeks, he has demonstrated that the £3.5 million spent on him was a wise investment. He possesses good footwork, speed, and an eye for goal, which are essential qualities for attacking players.”
