Exequiel Palacios of Bayer Leverkusen is reportedly in the running to join Aston Villa in January.
He has been deployed mostly as a defensive midfielder by Xabi Alonso this season, although he has also occasionally played in the middle of the pitch. In nine league games, he has managed two goals and two assists.
TNT Sports reports that a number of clubs, including those in the Premier League—Manchester City, Newcastle, and Aston Villa are among them—have expressed interest in Palacios due to his performance.
The Premier League club is reportedly “seriously considering the possibility” of signing him in the winter transfer window.
The Argentina international’s value has increased after the Bundesliga team awarded him a new deal that runs through 2028 last month.
The report clarifies that, despite signing the contract, the 25-year-old and the Bundesliga team have a “tantalizing opportunity” to proceed with the transfer due to the interest shown by Manchester City, Newcastle, and Aston Villa.
The three English teams in the lead and the potential signing fee for Palacios in the upcoming window are not disclosed by TNT Sports.
