Prior to yesterday’s match between the two teams, Inter executives were asked for some whistles by Roma manager Jose Mourinho.

Marcus Thuram scored a goal late in the match to maintain his excellent trend in Serie A, but the Giallorossi lost 1-0 Sunday as a result. Romelu Lukaku, however, was going to be the main focus of the day as he made his way back to San Siro and the club.

Inter supporters took whistles into the San Siro and greeted the Belgian striker with loud cheers as soon as he got off the team van and onto the field. Not only did he play poorly, but his touches were whistled as well.

According to Corriere della Sera (via TMW), Mourinho spoke with Inter executives while he was watching the game from the press gallery and inquired, “Do you have any whistles you can lend me? It might come in handy for me.

It’s unclear what Mourinho intended to say, but he was watching the game from the press area because he was barred from managing it from the bench during play.

Marcus Thuram, a quality player for Inter, proved his worth once more on Sunday when he scored for his team against Roma.

Romelu Lukaku, who was making his first trip back to the San Siro since leaving Inter and thereby “betraying” his former team and colleagues as the Nerazzurri were trying their hardest to sign him permanently, was the main attraction of the day.

Inter fans showered Lukaku with whistles as soon as he stepped off the team bus and onto the San Siro field, giving him a boisterous reception. However, Thuram’s late goal was the star of the show. And in a very successful season so far, this is not the first time the France international has made an impression.

Thuram once again demonstrated his ability to mimic the renowned Lu-La partnership by combining extremely well with Lautaro Martinez. In his nine Serie A outings to far, he has racked up seven assists and three goals. It was his season’s second goal in a row.

Thuram, whose contract at Borussia Monchengladbach had ended, had joined the team on a free transfer, and he is already looking like one of the most outstanding additions of the season in Europe.
