Eight of West Ham’s 13 matches in all competitions this season have taken place away from home.

The Hammers have faced some travel woes since returning from the international break, suffering a 4-1 defeat at Aston Villa in the Premier League and a 2-1 loss to Olympiacos in the Europa League.

However, there’s a string of familiar home games on the horizon, with West Ham set to play four out of their next five matches at the London Stadium.

Hammers manager David Moyes expressed his view on this upcoming advantage: “It does feel like an advantage. If you look at our start to the season, I was a bit unhappy because we had a challenging beginning. We had three away games in the first four matches, and even in the subsequent fixtures, it kept us on the road more than at home.”

“Hopefully, having four of the next five games at home will work in our favor. We’ve performed well at home, even in tough matches, and we expect more challenges ahead.”

The use of “really unfair” in his statement stands out. Fixture lists are essentially a game of chance, and managers often mention that things tend to even out over the course of a season, with the fixture list being no exception.

Nonetheless, West Ham has hit a rough patch, securing only four points out of a possible 15 in their last five league games. The Olympiacos defeat has added further pressure on Moyes.

It might be a tad premature to discuss managerial changes; Moyes still holds credit from the Europa Conference League victory. However, some individuals are growing impatient, and Moyes will want to secure more wins in the upcoming weeks. Hopefully, the comfort of home matches can assist in achieving that and delay any potential decision from the board regarding his position.
