Jake Cooper reflects on the whirlwind of change as Millwall’s players adapt to life without Gary Rowett. Gary Rowett left just days before a challenging trip to Preston.

Regardless of what happened off the field, the Lions went to third-place Preston and were fair value for their 1-1 draw. Cooper claims that adjusting to the new normal has taken some time.

After yesterday’s game, he told NewsAtDen, “It’s been a bit all over the place if I’m honest, it’s been a bit crazy.” Not knowing what’s going on and other such things. But Adam came in on Thursday and told us how it was and how he planned to handle it, and the lads agreed.

“We’re all focused on trying to get results for Ads and the fans who have come up here today. That will be our main focus when we go back on Tuesday. Ads is a very popular person in the football club.”

Cooper and Barrett both became part of the club in 2017, and the 28-year-old defender has expressed his appreciation for the team’s new interim manager.

“I’ve had a close working relationship with Adam throughout my time at the club,” Cooper explained. “He primarily focused on defensive aspects and set plays, which we used to practice.

“I didn’t get to see much of his tactical side because he was more involved in those areas. However, he exudes passion and maintains a positive attitude. He’s approachable, easygoing, and a fantastic presence to have within the football club.”

Regarding the actual game, Cooper remarked, “[It was] clearly a very challenging start, not at all the start we wanted.” However, I believe that after the initial wobbly ten to fifteen minutes, we really rallied and played our game, and I felt it was a fantastic performance. The second half was a little shaky after that, but it was still a difficult place to be.

“Preston has had a fantastic start to the season and has been flying high. They are a large physical team that makes things difficult for opposing teams. We had to confront that, and I believe we did so quite well.
