Borna Barisic, who moved to Glasgow in 2018, is among the Rangers players with the longest tenure; nevertheless, his contract expires this summer.

Rangers’ future with Borna Barisic is still up in the air after it was revealed that Nottingham Forest and Dinamo Zagreb were vying for the Croat’s transfer.

The left-back, who joined Steven Gerrard in 2018 from Prva Liga team Osijek, has started for the first team under four different managers while starting 203 games in all competitions and scoring nine goals. However, given that Ridvan Yilmaz has signed a contract for the future and that his performances have declined under Michael Beale and Giovanni van Bronckhorst, it appears inevitable that he will go.

Earlier in the week, he was connected to a move to Forest, and fresh rumors indicate that a deal might just be a “formality.” According to a report by the Croatian publication Nogometne Vijesti, Barisic is reportedly being considered by Nottingham Forest and Dinamo. However, Premier League finances have undoubtedly given the former European Cup winners the upper hand in the competition for his services.

That was throughout the summer, but despite connections toward the end of the window, a deal to return home never materialized, leaving the team to rely on the relatively untested pair of Ridvan Yilmaz and Adam Devine at left back.

Although a bid was anticipated for the January transfer window, sources from the previous week indicate that Forest has entered the competition to sign him. Although Harry Toffolo, Nuno Tavares, and Ola Aina are all capable of playing on the left side, Toffolo has a five-month suspended sentence due to gambling accusations; if it is triggered, Barisic may be called upon.

Rangers are rumored to be hoping to reach an agreement with Barisic to put an end to rumors, but there has been the strange chance that the Light Blues may reach an agreement but then decide to sell the Croatian to avoid going home empty-handed. Even though Forest has the financial advantage and a competitive offer is all but a “formality,” according to Nogometne Vijesti, Zagreb hasn’t lost up on signing him with the transfer window closing in less than two months.
