The defender Borna Barisic of Rangers now seems to be nearing a new deal, even though Nottingham Forest is still showing interest.

Philippe Clement took over in the Ibrox dugout this week, marking the arrival of a new manager for the Gers.

Fabrizio Romano reports that there is still a lot going on elsewhere, with Rangers making an approach for Sam Jewell.

If Romano is correct, Jewell might end up as the Rangers’ technical director, and he might still have the last say on a new deal that is now being discussed.

Borna Barisic contract moving closer

Borna Barisic, a left back, has reportedly received a contract extension offer from Rangers, according to TEAMtalk.

It is reported that after more than five years since his £2.2 million move from Osijek, Rangers have offered the Croatian a two-year contract in an attempt to resolve his future.

The story also states that Rangers are hoping to finalize an agreement soon, and that a deal is “expected” to be done in the upcoming weeks.

Rangers want to guard against Barisic signing a pre-contract deal elsewhere because his contract expires in the summer.

Although Barisic’s new deal may safeguard his worth rather than indicate that he would play a major part going forward, it is implied that Rangers may still try to sell him.

Nottingham Forest interest would now be a shock

According to a TEAMtalk story, Nottingham Forest is still interested in Barisic after wanting him during the summer.

Ross Wilson, a former Rangers player, is in charge at Forest and would be interested in getting back together with Barisic.

Barisic, though, turns 31 in November, and his performance this year doesn’t exactly suggest that he will be a star in the Premier League going ahead.

Ola Aina and Gonzalo Montiel can both play on the left, and Harry Toffolo, who is in the mix, and Nuno Tavares, who is on loan from Arsenal, are Forest’s top left back possibilities.

Even with Wilson involved, signing another left back—and one who isn’t exactly pulling up trees this season—would be quite surprising, and it’s possible that the rumors are a tactic to pressure Rangers into giving in on certain contract requirements.
